Dr. Patricia A. Ackerman former Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Administrator and Principal, created the Cleveland Heights High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame to bring “life-sized role models” directly to students giving them real examples of what they, too, can accomplish. The first ceremony was held April 30, 1981 in the main auditorium of Heights High during the school day with the entire student body in attendance.

Deeply important to Dr. Ackerman was that a group of students, formerly known as “Image Makers,” be the ones to blindly select each year’s cohort of inductees based solely on the alums’ accomplishments.  Current students have the exact same role today. Each year, nominations are accepted from alumni and the general public. A Heights Schools Foundation committee previews the applications for completeness and recommends a pool of candidates to the Image Makers. They review the applications and choose up to ten to induct. At the induction, these students introduce the inductees at the public ceremony.
