Rabbi Sharyn Henry has served in various rabbinic roles at Rodef Shalom Congregation, in Pittsburgh, and was named the senior rabbi in 2021. She was awarded Doctor of Divinity by Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 2013 for her 25 years of service to the Jewish community. Rabbi Henry has received multiple humanitarian awards for her commitment to helping individuals with disabilities and her work as an advocate for equality and inclusion.
With a lifetime of dedication to helping others, it is no wonder Rabbi Henry is considered distinguished. She has received humanitarian awards for her advocacy in equality and inclusion by CLASS- Community Living and Support Services, and from Pittsburgh United Cerebral Palsy, in recognition of her commitment to helping individuals with disabilities. Rabbi Henry has been a panelist for transgender rights, Jewish studies programs, religious leadership in public life and an interfaith discussion to combat anti-semitism.
Rabbi Henry has traveled to Haiti and Guatemala supporting human rights and efforts to fight poverty in developing countries. After the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh, she was involved in many activities in the community to support the temple and anti-hate protests. Whether abroad or locally, Rabbi Henry can be found fighting injustice and giving back to those around her. She describes her work as, “fulfilling , enervating, sometimes frustrating, but always deeply meaningful.”
